Parents & Guardians: How to Sign the FERPA Release in Scoir

Cristina Hernandez Updated by Cristina Hernandez

If your student’s school requires a parent or guardian to sign the FERPA Release, you’ll only be able to sign it when you are logged into a Scoir account that is linked to your student and their school. If your account isn’t linked, you will not be able to view or sign the FERPA release.

How to Sign the FERPA Release (If Your Account Is Linked)

If your account is properly linked, you’ll receive a notification inside Scoir letting you know that a FERPA signature is required.

Here’s how to sign:

  1. Log into Scoir using the email address linked to your student’s school.
  2. In the top-right corner, open the Me menu.
  3. Next to your student’s name, look for a notification that says your student “Needs your signature.” If you see it, click your student's name to go straight to their profile.
  4. On the right side of their profile, find the Scoir FERPA section and select Review and Sign.
  5. Review the form, then click Sign.
  6. After you sign, the FERPA Release will show as Granted on your student’s profile within your account. You’ll see your name and the date you signed, and you can click the release anytime to preview or download a copy.

If You Don’t See the FERPA Release in Scoir

If you don’t see a notification to sign the FERPA Release, your parent account is likely not linked to your student’s school yet.

Watch this 1-minute video to learn how to link your account and complete the FERPA Release.

Invitations expire after 7 days. If you can’t find the email or the link no longer works, contact your student’s school counselor and ask them to send a new Scoir parent invitation.

After you receive the new invitation and link your account, you’ll should see the FERPA notification and can complete the steps above to sign.
