For Parents/Guardians: Suggesting colleges and sharing your contact information

If you are not yet linked to your student(s) or their high school(s), follow these steps.

Parents have the ability to suggest colleges to their students. Suggested colleges appear in the Suggested column of the student’s My Colleges page.

How do I suggest a college to my student?

  1. Click on the Discover tab
  2. Use the filters at the top of the page to conduct a college search. See here for further step by step directions on searching for colleges in Scoir.
  3. Click the Suggest button on the college tile of the college you would like to suggest.

Additionally, if you click on your desired college's name directly, you will come to their college profile.

To suggest the school to your student from the college profile, click the Suggest button at the top of the college profile.  

If a student has marked this college as Not Interested, you'll see a little note about it. But you can still suggest it if you think it might be a good fit.

Once a college is suggested, the student may act on it and move it to their Following or Applying columns from the Suggested column of their My Colleges page.

How do I share my contact information with colleges?

Once you click the Suggest button and confirm “suggest to [student’s name],” a form will pop up asking you to share your contact information.

You can choose to share your information with:

  • only the school you’ve just suggested
  • every college you suggest to your student, automatically
  • all colleges you suggest along with all colleges on your student’s list
  • no colleges at that time

How can I see colleges I've suggested?

To find the colleges you've suggested to your student:

  1. Go to your student's profile.
  2. From the left-hand menu, click Colleges & Applications > My Colleges.
    1. In the Column Layout, the college will appear under the Suggested column.
    1. In the Table Layout, you'll see "Suggested" listed in the Status column for the corresponding college row.

How can I see colleges I've shared my contact information with?

To find the colleges you've shared your contact information with:

  1. Go to your student's profile.
  2. From the left-hand menu, click Colleges & Applications > My Colleges.
    1. Click the View as Table icon on the right, and you’ll see the colleges you’ve shared your info with under the Info Sharing column.

How can I change my communication preferences?

To change the way you share your contact information with colleges:

  1. Click the Me drop down menu in the top right corner and click your name to get into your settings.
  2. From the left-hand menu, click Communication Preferences.

  1. Adjust your preferences under Sharing your contact info with colleges.

If you have more than one student, preferences are set for each student separately. You can click on each student's name to set them.

How can I un-suggest a college?

When parents or guardians suggest colleges to their student, they can click the three dots next to the college and choose the option to remove the suggestions.

Please note: A college can only be removed by the person who made the suggestion.
