Counselors: Why can’t I add a parent to a student’s account?

Cristina Hernandez Updated by Cristina Hernandez

If you see an “Error: Undefined” or “Parent creation failed” message when trying to add and invite a parent, it usually means a parent account with that email already exists in your school.

Because email addresses must be unique, Scoir will not allow you to create a duplicate account, even if that parent is not currently linked to the student.

Instead of creating a new parent, you’ll need to locate the existing account and connect it to the student.

How do I find the existing parent account?

  1. Use the main search bar at the top of Scoir to search for the parent by name. If you don’t see them right away, try searching by last name only.
  2. Find the parent in the results list and click their name to open their profile.
  3. In the parent’s profile, confirm the email matches the one you were trying to add.
  4. After confirming this is the correct parent, click + Student to search for and connect them to the student.
  5. To confirm the parent has been connected, go to the student’s profile and check that their name appears in the Parents section.
If you’re unable to find the parent, double-check for spelling variations in their name. If the issue persists, reach out to Scoir Support for help.
