Students: Requesting Application Fee Waivers in Scoir

Customer Support Team Updated by Customer Support Team

Application fee waivers allow you to submit college applications without paying an application fee. To receive one, you must qualify based on financial or program eligibility. If you’re not sure whether you qualify, you can review the eligibility guidelines here.

Scoir gives you a couple of ways to request a fee waiver, and there are also options available outside of Scoir. The sections below walk you through each one.

Applying through Common App? If you’re requesting a fee waiver for a college you're applying to via Common App, the process may be different depending on your school's integration. Learn how it works here: Requesting Fee Waivers for Common App

Option 1: Request a Fee Waiver When Applying Coalition With Scoir

As you begin the application process in Scoir, you’ll complete your Application Profile. This includes a short section about fee waivers. Your answers help determine whether you’re eligible.

If you answer "Yes" to any of the fee waiver questions, you’ll be considered eligible for a fee waiver for any college you apply to through Scoir.

Common eligibility criteria include:

  • qualifying for Free and Reduced Lunch
  • receiving a College Board, ACT, or NACAC fee waiver
  • being eligible for a Pell Grant
  • participating in a TRIO program
  • being a veteran or on active duty

Veterans and active members of the U.S. Armed Forces may be eligible for Coalition’s Fee Waiver by selecting criteria in that section of your Application Profile.

If you are eligible, Scoir will highlight colleges where you can apply for free. When viewing college profiles in Scoir, you’ll see an indicator showing that a fee waiver is available.

Option 2: Request a fee waiver from your My Colleges page

If your high school uses Scoir and has enabled the ability to send documents on your behalf, you can also request a fee waiver directly from your My Colleges page.

Note: This option is only available to students at schools that send documents through Scoir.

From your student dashboard, open the My Colleges page to view the schools you’re planning to apply to.

In the top-right corner, click Docs to access your application documents. This option only appears if your account is connected to a high school that uses Scoir and has enabled the ability to send documents on your behalf.

In the Fee Waiver Request section, select Request & Sign to start your fee waiver request.

After you sign your portion, Scoir will notify your counselor so they can review and sign theirs. Once your counselor completes their part, you’ll receive a notification letting you know the fee waiver is ready.

Option 3: Request a fee waiver outside of Scoir

If a college doesn’t offer fee waivers through Scoir, you still have other ways to request one.

NACAC Fee Waiver

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) offers an application fee waiver for students who meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • you received an SAT or ACT fee waiver
  • you are enrolled in Free or Reduced Lunch
  • your family meets the USDA Income Eligibility Guidelines
  • you participate in a program supporting low-income students
  • your family receives public assistance
  • you live in subsidized housing or a foster home

Your counselor usually signs this form to verify eligibility.

School-Specific Fee Waivers

Some colleges provide their own fee waiver forms or processes. Check the college’s admissions website or contact their office to learn what they require. Also note that some colleges do not charge application fees at all.
