For Recommenders: How to Submit a Letter of Recommendation for Non-Scoir Students

Customer Support Updated by Customer Support

When a student applying through Apply with Scoir—whose school is not connected to Scoir—adds you as a recommender, you’ll receive an email asking you to upload your letter of recommendation. You do not need a Scoir account to submit your letter.

You’ll only receive this email after the student:

  • Submits their application to a college, and
  • Assigns you as a recommender for that college

If you haven’t received an email, check with your student to confirm both steps are complete.

This article is for recommenders of students whose high school is not connected to Scoir (including international and transfer students). If your school uses Scoir to send documents, see Sending Application Documents for Individual Students.

Accessing your portal

You’ll receive an email from automated@scoir.com with the subject: “You have a new recommendation request.”

This email includes the student’s name and any message they shared. Click Manage Recommendations to open the Supporter Dashboard, where you can upload your letter or decline the request.

If the link doesn’t work or you can’t find the email, request a new one here: https://app.scoir.com/app/supporter

Use the same email address your student entered, and confirm they added it correctly.

Once in the portal, you'll see the student listed under My Students on the left. You'll see:

  • Their FERPA status
    • FERPA Granted : The student waived their right to view recommendations right to view their recommendations.
    • FERPA Withheld: The student did not waive their right
  • The Material Deadline — The college’s deadline for materials. Documents can still be submitted after this date and it will not prevent the student's application from being processed.
  • Decline Request — Use this if you’re unable to write the recommendation. The student will be notified.

Uploading & sending your recommendation

All recommendations must be uploaded as PDF files. Other file types are not accepted. If you need to convert your document, Microsoft Word and Google Docs both have instructions for saving as PDF.

There is also a 10MB file size limit per recommendation.

To upload, drag and drop your file or click Attach file. You only need to upload once—the letter will be sent to all the colleges the student applied to.

Check your letter before uploading. Once sent, it can’t be edited, replaced, or deleted.

If you uploaded the wrong file before sending, click the three dots and select Discard to remove it.

Once sent, the file cannot be deleted or changed in Scoir. If updates are needed, you or the student must contact the college directly.

After uploading, check the acknowledgment box confirming the document is correct, then click Send Documents.

Once sent, the status will show a green Complete badge. You will not receive a confirmation email after sending.

Troubleshooting

I uploaded the wrong letter. What can I do?

If you haven’t sent it yet, click the three dots next to the file and select Discard to remove it and upload a new one.

If you already clicked Send Documents, the file cannot be changed in Scoir. Contact the college directly to provide an updated letter.

I didn't recieve the email or I'm getting an authentication error.

Request a new link at app.scoir.com/app/supporter using the email address your student entered for you. You may also want to double-check that they added your email address correctly. If you're not sure which address they used, check with them directly.

You can also review and share these troubleshooting steps with your student.

Scoir Support cannot resend invitation emails. Use the link above to request a new one.

If needed, you can still send documents to colleges by using your legacy system, uploading them directly to the college’s portal, or emailing the admissions office (include the student’s name in the subject line).
