Transfer & Non-Scoir Students: Requesting transcripts, application documents, & recommendations

Customer Support Team Updated by Customer Support Team

This guide is for transfer students, international students, and anyone applying with Scoir without a connected high school.

It shows you how to add a school official to send your documents, request and assign recommendations, and fix common issues.

Before you start! Complete Part 1 and Part 2 of your application in Scoir before using this guide. Documents and recommendations can only be sent after both parts are submitted.

Haven’t done that yet? See How to Apply with Scoir for the full walkthrough.

Add a School Official to send your transcripts & other documents

Your school official sends your application documents, like transcripts, school reports, and counselor recommendations.

You need to add them in Scoir so they can upload your documents using a secure link.

Who should you add?

Who you add depends on your situation:

  • High school student (no Scoir connection): your school counselor, registrar, or the person who sends academic records
  • Transfer student: your college registrar or records office. If you attended multiple schools, you may want to add one school official per school
  • International student: your school counselor, registrar, or the person who sends academic records

How to add a School Official

A school official and a recommender cannot use the same email address. If the same person needs to submit both, they must use a different email address or you will need to add a different person.
  1. Log in to Scoir at app.scoir.com.
  2. Go to My Colleges > Docs & Recs.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click +Add School Official.
  4. In the window that appears, enter their first name, last name, email, school. Click Add.

Once added, Scoir sends them an email with a secure link to upload documents. They will also get reminders when you submit Part 1 to new colleges. Full upload instructions for school officials: Sending application documents.

Don’t see a “School Officials” section? This means your school is already connected to Scoir and handles document sending automatically. See Requesting teacher recommendations if your school uses Scoir instead.
If your school official needs to upload a secondary school report, please refer them here, where there are step-by-step directions and a template for them to complete and upload!

How to delete a School Official

From My Colleges > Docs & Recs, click Delete next to the school official and confirm.

Request and assign recommendations

Sending recommendation letters to colleges is a 2-step process:

  1. Request the letter
  2. Assign it to a college

You must complete both steps for the letter to be sent to the college.

Requesting and assigning are two separate steps - both must be completed for your letter to reach your colleges. After you request a letter, you still need to assign it to each college you want to receive it. Many students miss this step. Instructions for both are below.

Step 1: Request a recommendation

  1. Log in to Scoir at app.scoir.com.
  2. Go to My Colleges> Docs & Recs.
  3. In the Letters of Recommendation section, click New Request.
  4. If this is your first request, enter their first and last name, email, and relationship to you. Choose Teacher for academic recommenders (professors, instructors, teachers), then click Add Recommender.
    1. If you’ve requested a recommendation before, you can select an existing recommender.
      Choose the recommender type carefully.
Some colleges require specific types, like Teacher. If you choose the wrong type (like "Other"), you may not be able to assign the letter.

If you selected the wrong type, you will need to delete the request and recommender, then add them again and submit a new request. Your recommender will need to upload their letter again. See: I added my recommender as "Other" and can’t assign their letter to a college
  5. Once you’ve added or selected your recommender, choose whether this is a General or College-specific recommendation. General recommendations can be assigned to any college, while college-specific recommendations are limited to one. Choose General whenever possible.
  6. Add a note to your recommender - this is a good place to remind them of shared experiences, highlight key achievements, or mention any important deadlines.
  7. Click Submit.

After you submit, your recommender will receive an email with a secure link to upload their letter.

Their status will update to Completed once uploaded, or Declined if they choose not to write it. You’ll be notified either way.

Wait - you're not done yet!
Requesting a recommendation does not send it to a college. You still need to assign it. Keep reading for Step 2.

Step 2: Assign a recommendation to a college

  1. Go to My Colleges and click on the tile for the college you want to assign a recommendation to.
  2. In the panel, scroll to the "Letters of Recommendation" section. You’ll see required and optional recommendation slots for that college.
  3. Click Assign next to an open slot (start with any required ones).
  4. Choose a recommendation and click Assign. You’ll only see options that match the college’s requirements. For example, if a college requires a Teacher recommendation, you’ll only see recommendations from teachers.
Please be careful when making your selection, as this assignment cannot be changed later!
  5. Repeat for each college.

Once assigned and provided by your recommender, allow 14 days for colleges to process the documents and for them to appear as delivered in their portal.

Counselor recommendations are handled by your school official. You do not need to request or assign them here.

How to delete a Recommender

  1. Go to My Colleges > Docs & Recs.
  2. In the Letters of Recommendation section, click Delete Recommenders.
  3. In the window that appears, select the recommender you want to remove and click Delete.
