My recommendation was submitted but the college portal says it’s not received

For: Transfer applicants · International students · Students whose high school does not use Scoir

If your recommender submitted their letter to Scoir, but your college’s portal still shows it as "Not Received", this is almost always because the letter hasn’t been assigned to your college yet.

Requesting a recommendation and assigning it to a college are two separate steps in Scoir. Requesting asks your recommender to upload the letter. Assigning is what actually sends it to the college.

Check if your recommendation has been assigned

  1. Go to your My Colleges page in Scoir and click on the tile of the college you’d like the recommendation to be sent to.
  2. In the panel that appears, scroll to the “Letters of Recommendation” section. If you see an "Assign" button, that means the letter hasn't been sent to that college yet. Click Assign to assign the recommendation to an open slot.
  3. Once it is assigned and your recommender has provided it, it will go to that college automatically overnight.
  4. You’ll want to repeat this process for any other colleges you’d like to assign the recommendation to as well.

How long will it take for my college portal to update?

The college-provided portal may need some time to update this status, as some colleges need up to 14 days or so to process documents that they receive. However, today’s date is what will count when it comes to the receipt of these documents at the college.

What if my deadline is really close?

If you’ve just assigned the letter, give the portal time to update first — the date you assigned it is what counts as the receipt date, so you’re covered even if the portal hasn’t caught up yet.

If your deadline is very tight and you’re still concerned, your recommender can also email the letter directly to the college admissions office as a backup.

It’s been more than 14 business days and it’s still not showing up

If you’ve assigned the letter, more than 14 business days have passed since the date you assigned it, and the portal still shows it as missing, contact Scoir support. To help us look into it quickly, include:

  • Your name and the name of the college that’s showing the letter as missing
  • Your recommender’s name
  • A screenshot of your Docs & Recs page showing the letter status
  • A screenshot of your college portal showing the letter as missing
