Colleges: Outreach Messaging Overview

Outreach Messaging is available as an add-on for colleges with the Premium Presence package. Learn more

Outreach Messages are effective ways to communicate with students who've matched with or shown interest in your college, helping you recruit those who meet your enrollment goals.

There are two types of Outreach Messages:

  1. One-Time Messages are sent immediately based on your customizations.
  2. Automated Messages are sent automatically after a student or parent completes an event (like a student adding your school to their Following list in Scoir).

Here's an overview of how they work.

Creating an Outreach Message

  1. Go to Engage > Messaging
  2. Choose whether you want to create a One-Time or Automated message
  3. Select + New Message

Choosing an Audience

Begin by selecting if you would like to send to Students or Parents.

Customizing Your Audience

Whether you're sending a One-Time or Automated Message, you'll see a range of segmentation options depending on whether you're messaging Students or Parents.

Students

  • Followers: students who are Following, Applying to, or have Applied to your school.
  • My Matches: matched prospects who aren't following you yet.
  • List of Student IDs: a custom list of Scoir Student IDs from your CRM. Use this option to target a specific group, like admitted students during yield season. See Sending One-Time Outreach Messages for instructions on how to build your list.

Parents

  • Followers: parents/guardians of students who are Following, Applying to, or have Applied to your school

You can further narrow down your audience by applying one or more filters within the Filter segment.

Sending to Parents? Segments and filters work based on the associated student's information, not the parent directly. For example, selecting Followers messages the parents of students who are Following, Applying to, or have Applied to your school. Similarly, filters like Class Year and Career Interests narrow your audience based on the student's information, not the parent's.

Engagement Stage lets you choose whether you want to reach students who are Following your college, are Applying, or have Applied

Class Year narrows your message’s scope by the selected class year(s)

Academic Focus includes the selected majors students have added to their college preferences like Business and Nursing

Student Life sends your message to students who have included selected interests in their college preferences like school programs, clubs, and sports

Career Interests allows you to target students according to their saved career preferences. Simply select up to 10 career options to refine your outreach.

Demographics lets you segment by Legal Sex and Neighborhood Household Income

Location includes State and Community Type such as city or rural

First Generation Students narrows your message to those who are first generation

High School lets you segment students in specific high schools (via search), and choose school type whether that's public or private

Academic Profile allows you to reach only students who reported test scores like ACT / SAT within a selected range

Composing the Message

Next add a compelling Subject and compose your message in the Body.

Adding a Call To Action (Optional)

If you'd like, add a button to the bottom of your message that directs your recipients to a specific website or landing page.

Scheduling Messages

When scheduling One-Time Messages, you'll simply choose a date and time.

For Automated Messages, select a Trigger for the send whether that's when a student has started Following your college, they've indicated they're Applying, or have Applied.

View Message Performance

Messages and their performance analytics like open rate and clicks can be found in the message table on the Messaging tab. Values will populate once actions are taken by your recipients.

Click on the column headers to sort your list of messages based on date created, total sent, opens, open rate, or clicks. By default, messages are sorted by send date, with the most recently scheduled messages appearing at the top.
