How Scoir-Created Plans Fit Into Assignments

Scoir-Created Plans are part of Assignments, a set of tools designed to help you guide students through structured milestones. Before diving in, it helps to understand the three pieces that make it work: Tasks, Forms, and Plans.

Tasks

Tasks are the individual action items students complete, like "Watch this video on building a college list" or "Register for the SAT.” Each one can include a description, start and due dates, video links, and PDF attachments.

Forms

A Form is how you collect information from a student, like a Senior Brag Sheet or a career interest survey.  Forms can't be assigned on their own. They need to be attached to a Task so they can reach students. Once a student submits the Form, their response is captured in Scoir.

If there's data you want to track that we don't have a field for, you can map Form responses to Custom Properties, which populate directly on the student profile and in your Student Roster for easy filtering and reporting.

Plans

If you find yourself recreating the same Tasks every year, like orientation checklists for freshmen, that's where Plans come in. A Plan is a collection of Tasks and Forms that, once published, is assigned to students in a single grade level or across multiple grade levels. You build it once and reuse it every year. When the year ends and students roll over, your Plan automatically moves into draft so you can review and republish for the next group, with your history from the previous year preserved.

Scoir-Created Plans bring all three together. They contain pre-built Tasks and Forms already included and ready to publish from day one. Many of the Tasks contain prerequisites which require students to complete one task before the next appears.

What's Included

There are three Scoir-Created Plans, built from Scoir's ASCA-compliant College and Career Readiness curricula and adapted into student-facing Tasks and Forms. You'll only see the Plans that are relevant to your school. For example, if the middle school solution isn't enabled in your account, the Middle School Career Readiness Plan won't appear.

Getting Started with Scoir

Grades: 6-12 | Tasks: 7

This Plan emphasizes discovery and personalization, making sure students feel confident navigating Scoir from the start. Tasks here include things like taking the College Match Quiz, setting their preferences, or following a few colleges they’re interested in.

Middle School Career Readiness

Grades: 6-8 | Tasks: 22

This Plan sparks early curiosity and helps younger students start thinking about their future. The focus is on self-discovery and making connections between personal interests and career paths. Example tasks include creating a career vision board or filling out Forms that encourage them to reflect on what they’ve learned about themselves.

High School College & Career Readiness

Grades: 9-12 | Tasks: 63

This Plan helps students explore careers, build their college lists, and prepare for the application process. Students can track concrete progress toward their postsecondary goals, make more informed choices, and graduate with a clear path ahead. Tasks in this Plan might include completing the Career Interest Assessment, creating a first draft of a balanced college list, or drafting a college essay outline.

Together, these three Plans provide an immediate, practical structure that counselors can rely on. They’re also designed with flexibility in mind, so schools can customize and adapt them to their own priorities and workflows.

How You Can Use These Plans

There's no single right way to use Scoir-Created Plans. Here are some ways counselors put them to work:

Publish and Go

If you've already reviewed our existing PDF curriculum and know it aligns with your school's needs,  you can publish without making any changes. Once published, Tasks are assigned to students and will appear as their start dates and prerequisites are met.

This might be you if... you're ready to let the curriculum do the work and reinvest the time saved into how you deliver and support it with your students.
If you publish the High School College & Career Readiness Plan as-is, students in older grade levels will also receive Tasks from prior grade levels. If that's not what you want, consider duplicating Tasks into your own grade-level Plans instead.

Customize for Your School

These Plans are fully customizable. If you like the foundation but want to adjust dates, reorder Tasks, swap out content, or archive Tasks that don’t apply, you can make those changes before publishing.

This might be you if... you want to reorder Tasks, weave in a specific lesson, or adjust the pacing to better match where your students are in the year.

Borrow What You Need

You don't have to publish a full Plan to get value from it. Duplicate individual Tasks into your own Plans, or use them as inspiration to make updates to what you already have.

This might be you if... you already have your own Plans but want to pull in specific Tasks or content rather than publishing an entire Scoir-Created Plan.

Regardless of which approach you choose, we recommend taking a few minutes to review the Plan content before publishing. Head to the Reviewing and Publishing Your Plans section for guidance on what to look for and how to decide what works best for your school.

Reviewing and Publishing Your Plans

You'll find Scoir-Created Plans in Assignments > Plans. Depending on your school's setup, you'll see either the High School College & Career Readiness Plan or the Middle School Career Readiness Plan, or both, along with our Getting Started with Scoir plan, which everyone receives.

Plans start as drafts in your account, so you can take your time reviewing and making edits before anything is assigned to students.

If your school is part of a district that uses Scoir's network services, the district can also customize and publish Scoir-Created Plans.

We recommend coordinating with your district admin before publishing to make sure the same Plans aren't published twice, which could result in duplicate Tasks for students.

Reviewing the Content

Before publishing, take time to review what's included in each Plan. Two resources can help:

  • Plans Topic Summary — A high-level overview of the themes and topics covered by grade level. A good starting point to get the big picture.
  • Plans Task Content — A detailed breakdown of every Task and Form, including descriptions, suggested dates, prerequisites, and any Form questions.

Things to Consider

As you look over the Plans content, here are a few things to keep in mind before publishing:

  • Timing and dates — Do the suggested dates align with your school's calendar? Adjust anything that doesn't fit your timeline.
  • Prerequisites — Some Tasks require students to complete one Task before the next appears. For example, the Getting Started with Scoir Plan uses prerequisites to walk students through onboarding one step at a time. Make sure the order makes sense for your students. You can adjust or remove prerequisites if needed.
  • Settings-dependent Tasks — Some Tasks ask students to do things that depend on how your school's settings are configured. For example, Task 2 of the Getting Started with Scoir Plan asks students to enter their GPA and test scores. If your school settings don't allow students to edit this information, the Task won't work as intended. Edit or remove tasks that don’t align with you school policies before publishing if needed.
  • Forms — Review the Form questions and decide whether they collect the information you need. You can edit questions, replace the Form entirely, or connect questions to Custom Properties to track responses on the student profile and roster.
  • Links and resources — Some Tasks include links, documents, or other resources. Review these to make sure they match the materials you want students to use. If your school has its own resources, such as worksheets, guides, or videos, you can replace the provided links with your own.

Making Changes Before You Publish

To edit a Task, open the Plan, click the more options button (•••) next to the Task, and select Edit Task. You can update the title, description, dates, attachments, prerequisites, or Form.

To duplicate a Task into one of your own Plans, select Duplicate Task from the same (•••)  menu. Keep in mind:

  • If the Task has a Form attached, the copy will include it.
  • Prerequisites don't carry over, but you can add your own once it's in your Plan.
If you don't have your own Plans set up yet, you'll need to create them before duplicating Tasks. See For Counselors: Creating and Managing Assignment Plans to get started.

Publishing

When you're ready, open the Plan and click Publish to assign Tasks to students. Once published, Task Status updates from “Pending” to “Active” for counselors, and Tasks appear on students’ dashboards ready to complete. Tasks with future start dates or unmet prerequisites will appear automatically once those conditions are met.

If you publish the High School College & Career Readiness Plan as-is, students in older grade levels will also receive Tasks from prior grade levels. If that's not what you want, consider duplicating Tasks into your own grade-level Plans instead.

Tracking Progress and Sending Reminders

Once your Plan is published, you can monitor how students are doing directly from the Tasks page. Open any Task to see completion rates and a breakdown of which students have or haven't completed it and when. You can also send reminders to individuals or the whole group right from that view.

Tips From Counselors

We asked counselors who already put Scoir-Created Plans to work to share their best tips. Here's what they said:

Audit with Pen and Paper

Before opening Scoir, print out the Plans Topic Summary and Task Content. Having a physical copy makes it easier to cross-reference grade levels, flag the Tasks you want to keep, and sketch out changes. By the time you're editing online, your decisions are already made.

Don't Start From Scratch

If you already have Tasks and Forms built in Scoir, don't set them aside. Use Scoir-Created Plans as a foundation and blend in what's already working for your school.

Start Small

You don't need to launch everything at once. Try duplicating a few Tasks into a grade-specific Plan and publish from there. This gradual approach ensures a much smoother transition for both your staff and your students.

Lean In!

Take full advantage of the pre-loaded Forms, labels, and suggested administration dates. These features are designed to automate your workflow and streamline communication.
